Old Comrades is the new online community designed exclusively for retired British Veterans to connect and reconnect over shared interests and experience, while discovering a local veteran community.

What is Old Comrades?

Old Comrades is digital community for older veterans from across the three Armed Services and the Merchant Navy. Old Comrades exists to promote social connection through events and activities, chat, and groups based on geographic location and interests. All wrapped up in a safe, closed, members-only community that is easy to navigate and use and maintained directly by staff from the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Our community, groups, events and resources are pretty special. We’re focused providing opportunities which will make a positive impact on your life, in line with the mission of our programme "helping older veterans to lead a better life for longer"

Here are a few of the things you’ll be able to do as a member of Old Comrades:

  • Rekindle and forge lifelong friendships with fellow veterans who share your military experiences and values.
  • Chat with our Chelsea Pensioners who are already signed-up and using 'Old Comrades'.
  • Participate in engaging activities, events and interests that enrich your daily life in the company of like-minded comrades.
  • Access a supportive network providing emotional and practical assistance tailored to your unique needs.

Other opportunities

We will continue to improve and develop the community, including through introducing additional features, groups, and offerings including:

  • Regional Groups: We plan to introduce additional regional groups so that we have full coverage of the UK. Each regional group launch will take place as soon as we have identified regional partners for content and events and sufficient members to provide an engaging and rewarding experience.
  • Interest Groups: We plan to be the place where Old Comrades can connect and reconnect through shared interests and past times. As soon as we identify demand from regular polls of the community we will launch additional groups. We are keen to hear from you at any time what your interests and hobbies are as chances are that you will not be alone.
  • Live Events: Via the video or chat features, in future, there will be themed events that members will be able to join to connect with like-minded Old Comrades. Keep an eye out for them via the Community Feed and Events & Replays spaces.
  • Community Projects: We would like to develop some engaging projects for the Old Comrades community to participate in. This might take the form of a compiling a guide to service life words and sayings so that any civilian friends can learn if a ‘brew’ is the same as a ‘wet’. It might involve a project to create a digital archive of service life stories.
