Challenge Events

Getting involved in a challenge event to raise money for the Royal Hospital is a fun and fulfilling way to help us give the Chelsea Pensioners the care they deserve and to preserve our unique historic community – while beating personal goals along the way!

Challenge yourself

Fancy doing a skydive or wing walk? Want to climb a mountain or walk the coastline? Now’s the time to take on that challenge. Sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues will spur you on.

Personal challenges supported by a strong social media presence are a fantastic way to raise money online. Set yourself a challenge – whether it’s non-stop juggling, press-ups or enduring a bucket of icy water – and tell everyone about it.

Use an online fundraising page

Online fundraising pages like JustGiving are an easy and effective way to raise funds.

You’ll be able to share the link with friends and family, create social media posts and make your page personal with updates and pictures.

Follow the step-by-step instructions on the website or get in touch with us for support.

Be inspired by our challengers

Veteran Tony Sanderson set himself the challenge of his first 100-mile continuous race in July 2022 to raise money for the Chelsea Pensioners. Tony – who is ex-military himself – told us what motivated him:

"We should not forget the older generation who served our great Nation. Even in their latter years, the Chelsea Pensioners continue to serve us. My run is a small gesture to raise funds for a truly worthy cause."

“Taking part in a challenge is a great buzz and you could help protect the Royal Hospital for future generations of Pensioners too. It was here in 1692 and you can help make sure it’s here in 2092.”

– Tony Hunt, Chelsea Pensioner and former marathon runner

Make a difference as a Royal Hospital fundraiser

Whatever your interests, you can use your passion and skills to help the Chelsea Pensioners. All you need is enthusiasm!

Fundraising for the Royal Hospital Chelsea will help us give the Chelsea Pensioners the best possible care in their historic home, in return for their loyal service to the nation. Together, we can protect our unique community for future generations of Army veterans.

Whether you go it alone, or fundraise with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues, we’d welcome your contribution – however big or small – and will be delighted to support you.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Cook up a storm

Host a bake sale, organise a coffee morning, a ‘Come Dine with Me’ dinner party or a pot-luck supper and give people’s tastebuds a treat while you raise funds.

  • Music that means more

Whether you’re a singer, guitarist or pianist you could use your talents to raise money for the Royal Hospital. Why not put on a concert, busk, or organise a sponsored sing to help the Chelsea Pensioners?

  • Get fit for fundraising

Boost your health and fitness by taking part in a sporting challenge. Whether you run, cycle, swim or simply walk the dog, you can make a difference to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Read more about challenge events above.

  • Fun with friends

Why not host a quiz night or movie evening, or organise a themed party or fancy dress event?

“The Royal Hospital needs all the support it can muster to ensure all veterans receive the comfort and care they deserve in their old age and it’s lovely that people choose to support us. They put all their energy into it. They may not be related to anyone here, but they’re still part of the Royal Hospital family because they’re supporting the veterans who are here.”

- Monica Parrott, Chelsea Pensioner
