The Royal Hospital Chelsea's Soane Stable Yard Reopens After Major Restoration
The historic Soane Stable Yard at the Royal Hospital Chelsea has officially reopened to the public. This marks a major milestone following a three-year restoration project, made possible by a generous grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and other charitable trusts and donors. This is the first time since 1692, the Royal Hospital has been open to the public seven days a week.
To celebrate the recent opening of the Soane Stable Yard, we welcomed representatives from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Allwyn UK to the Soane Stable Yard. Their support has been crucial in this restoration project, allowing us to preserve and share the rich history of the Royal Hospital Chelsea with visitors.
One of the highlights of the newly restored site is the Chelsea Pensioners Museum, featuring interactive displays that uncover the rich history of the Royal Hospital and the Chelsea Pensioners throughout the centuries. The exhibits are designed to offer an immersive experience, bringing to life the stories of the Royal Hospital’s residents throughout time.
In addition, the Soane Stable Yard includes a brand-new café run by Heidi Bakery, gift shop and Post Office.
We would like to say a special thank-you to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for their support in making this project possible and we look forward to welcoming visitors to the Soane Stable Yard.
