Our Friends scheme is closing
The Royal Hospital Chelsea (RHC) is closing the Friends Scheme from October 2026, with benefits continuing until your current membership year expires.

Why are we closing the Friends Scheme?
The Royal Hospital has evolved considerably since the Friends Scheme was established, and the ways in which supporters choose to engage with us have evolved too. We believe the time is right to move to a simpler and more flexible approach that better reflects the Royal Hospital today and enables us to focus more of our resources on supporting the Chelsea Pensioners.
When will the Friends Schemes be closing?
From October 2026 we will no longer be accepting new members or renewing existing memberships. As of the 1 November, we will start to wind down existing memberships.
What will happen to my existing membership payment after October 2026?
All memberships due to renew from 1 November onwards will be cancelled by the RHC. If you have a standing order payment, we ask you to cancel this yourself, as we are unable to do so on your behalf. If you pay by any other method such as cheque, CAF etc, if we do receive this, we will arrange for it to be returned or with your approval destroyed.
When will my benefits stop?
You will continue to enjoy all the benefits of your Friends membership until it expires.

Will I still be invited to events if I am no longer a Friend?
Supporters who sign up to receive the Royal Hospital's e-newsletter will continue to be warmly welcomed at selected community events, including the Governor's Review and Christmas Carol Services.
How will the Royal Hospital recognise former Friends?
While the Friends Scheme is ending, the relationships and goodwill built through the programme remain extremely important to us. We hope to continue welcoming former Friends as valued members of the wider Royal Hospital Chelsea community.
