This summer, Chelsea Pensioner Roy has been undertaking an extraordinary virtual cycling challenge, pedalling the equivalent of the 1,000-mile journey from John O' Groats to Land's End to raise funds for the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the War Horse Memorial.
The 88-year-old Army veteran has been completing the challenge throughout the Royal Hospital Chelsea's summer events programme, cycling from a stationary bike and inspiring supporters along the way.
The challenge will culminate on 25 October 2026 with a special fundraising auction at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
This exclusive event will celebrate Roy's remarkable achievement and provide an opportunity for supporters to come together in aid of two causes close to his heart. Guests will enjoy welcome drinks, a traditional high tea, and the chance to spend time with members of the Chelsea Pensioner community.
A selection of unique and prestigious memorabilia and experiences will be available for bidding, including several rare items not ordinarily available for public purchase.

Reflecting on the challenge, Roy said: "I love a challenge, and taking on the 1,000 miles between John O' Groats and Land's End is my biggest fundraising feat yet. Both causes are very dear to my heart. I have seen first-hand the difference the Royal Hospital Chelsea makes in ensuring those who serve are always supported. Some may think I'm mad for attempting it at my age, but it's absolutely worth it."
Donations to support Roy's Scarlet Wheels Challenge can be made via the campaign's JustGiving page
