Challenge Events

Getting involved in a challenge event to raise money for the Royal Hospital is a fun and fulfilling way to help us give the Chelsea Pensioners the care they deserve and to preserve our unique historic community – while beating personal goals along the way!

Challenge yourself

Fancy doing a skydive or wing walk? Want to climb a mountain or walk the coastline? Now’s the time to take on that challenge. Sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues will spur you on.

Personal challenges supported by a strong social media presence are a fantastic way to raise money online. Set yourself a challenge – whether it’s non-stop juggling, press-ups or enduring a bucket of icy water – and tell everyone about it.

Taking part in a challenge is a great buzz and you could help protect the Royal Hospital for future generations of Pensioners too. It was here in 1692 and you can help make sure it’s here in 2092.

Be inspired by our challengers

Veteran Tony Sanderson set himself the challenge of his first 100-mile continuous race in July 2022 to raise money for the Chelsea Pensioners. Tony – who is ex-military himself – told us what motivated him:

We should not forget the older generation who served our great Nation. Even in their latter years, the Chelsea Pensioners continue to serve us. My run is a small gesture to raise funds for a truly worthy cause.

Chelsea Pensioners, staff and friends of the Royal Hospital took on the challenge of crossing 16 bridges over the Thames to raise funds and enjoy the fresh air and London sights. Pensioner Ivan said:

I wanted to do something to give back to the Royal Hospital. I’ve loved being part of the team walking to raise money for our current and future veterans.
