The development plan contains a number of elements which, when completed will meet the objective of updating substantially the Royal Hospital's buildings.
Plans provide for:
1) The provision of a new Infirmary building (Care Home) - the fifth in the history of The Royal Hospital.
2) Upgrading the Long Wards (sheltered accommodation) to meet modern standards of living.
3) The reorganisation of ancillary facilities to provide improved services to In-Pensioners.
To fund this development plan, the Chelsea Pensioners' Appeal was launched in late 2003 with the aim of raising £35 million by the end of July 2008.
